The Network for Culture and Cultural Studies (NCCS) was founded by several scholars with similar interests. Although coming from different cultural backgrounds and theoretical positions and backgrounds, they decidedly promote the field of cultural studies.
Our Mission
NCCS’s mission is to provide a reflection network of/for scholars who will contribute to the development of cultural studies as an academic discipline; to develop a theory of culture as a tool for the analysis of political and social issues (historical and contemporary); to study the political dynamics of contemporary culture as well as its historical foundations, conflicts and defined properties; to encourage and develop interdisciplinary research and dialogue on the development and application of cultural theory in relation to the study of literature, media studies, visual culture, film studies, postcolonial studies, gender studies, history, cultural geography, anthropology, archeology, museology, memory studies, sociology, philosophy, law, economics; to provide resources for an ethical re-evaluation of contemporary society; to encourage research and activities that analyze the ways in which messages are related to identity, ideology, social class, nationality, ethnicity, sexuality; to encourage research and activities for addressing the ways in which prevalent meanings are generated and produced through various practices, beliefs, institutions, as well as political, economic or social structures within a given culture; to encourage research on the ways in which cultural practices are related to issues of power; to encourage ideas that will reconcile the division of knowledge, i.e., the split between silenced cultural knowledge and universal forms of knowledge.
Our Vision
NCCS’s vision is to grow into a recognizable network of researchers around the world closely collaborating in the field of cultural studies, by organizing meetings, scientific workshops and conferences, editing and creating collections and publications in order to exchange knowledge and experiences whilst encourage new knowledge.
